Math Placement CriteriaAt Crossroads Middle School, we consider a number of different factors to ensure that all students are placed in the appropriate math courses for the school year.
It is our expectation that students will do well in the class that they are enrolled in. In order to be accelerated, students need to demonstrate knowledge of content and skills beyond grade-level expectations. Placement tests will be administered in late May/early June. There is no preparation or advance notice provided for placement tests, because students are not being tested for concepts and skills taught in class. Placement Spring 2021 only
Beyond AlgebraStudents that have completed Algebra successfully will be placed in Geometry. Geometry is followed by Algebra 2 Please check HS website for pre-requisites for HS courses.
Important Note: If a student does not meet the criteria to be placed in Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1, it indicates that the student does not have the prerequisite skills to succeed in the course at this time. Placement into a course without readiness could potentially result in the student earning low grades, which then prevents him/her from taking Physics and other honors classes at the high school-- in both science and math.
Algebra is a foundational course and SBSD requires all students to take Algebra 1 during the school year. The grades in the class are also a prerequisite for many honors HS science classes. |
